Episode 16: Traci's Medication Journey

Hey everyone, welcome back to “New Stigmas at Open Wounds .” I’m Traci, and today I want to share a significant chapter of my life with you. Over the past few months, I’ve transitioned from my regular over-the-counter medications to a more herbal approach. This journey has been both challenging and enlightening, and I hope my experiences can offer some insights and encouragement to those considering a similar path.

A few months ago, I decided to switch from my usual medications to herbal supplements. The last medication I went off was in mid-May, and since then, I’ve been navigating life without traditional medicine. As someone with bipolar disorder, this decision was not taken lightly. I knew the risks and the potential challenges, but I felt ready to take this step.

One of the first herbal supplements I started with was Ashwagandha root, known for its stress and anxiety-relieving properties. I also considered St. John’s Wort for depression, although I had mixed results with it in the past. The transition wasn’t easy, and there were days when I felt low and unmotivated. However, I found that increasing my herbal supplements slightly on those days helped me manage my symptoms.

A significant part of this journey has been understanding the balance between my mindset and my chemical makeup. Over the years, I’ve made substantial progress in managing my mental health, and I felt that I was in a better place to handle this transition. I also did extensive research before making any changes, ensuring that I was well-informed about the supplements I was taking.

One of the most noticeable changes has been my energy levels. While my previous medications often left me feeling tired and drained, the herbal supplements have allowed me to regain some of my natural energy. However, this transition hasn’t been without its challenges. I’ve had to adjust to new energy levels and figure out the right balance of supplements to maintain my well-being.

It’s important to note that this journey is highly individual. What works for one person may not work for another. For me, the combination of a better mindset, careful planning, and the right herbal supplements has made this transition possible. I still have days where I question my decision, but overall, I feel more in tune with my body and my emotions.

If you’re considering a similar path, I encourage you to do thorough research, consult with healthcare professionals, and listen to your body. This journey is about finding what works best for you and being patient with yourself as you navigate the changes.
